H. H. Cheng, University of Minnesota Professor Emeritus, has been a national and international leader in the field of natural resource use and environmental evaluation and protection. During his tenure at Minnesota, he was the head of the Soil, Water, and Climate Department. His work on the Water Saving Agriculture has been particularly recognized in international circles. Since his retirement in 2001, he has worked closely with the University’s China Center to organize the United Nation Development Program projects in China. His research has been reported in more than 130 articles in scientific journals. He has served as president of the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society; served as a member of nine scientific societies; has been active in several international organizations; international lecturer, and consultant. In addition, he has supervised the work of 25 graduate students at Washington State University and the University of Minnesota. This internationally acclaimed scientist has used his scientific and public expertise to benefit the lives of millions of people around the world.
