Clifton E. French

Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

Clifton E. French received a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Leadership (1948) and a Master of Education degree (1949) from the University of Minnesota. He was one of the first students to major in the field of Recreation Leadership. He has been a leader in the field of parks and recreation having served as the first recreation director for the City of Edina and the first superintendent for the Hennepin County Park Reserve District. During his tenure, Hennepin Country Parks grew from 400 acres to 25,000 acres. He is recognized nationally for his leadership and achievements in this field. He is also described as a dedicated public servant with a commitment to the happiness and welfare of his fellow citizens.
