Ruth M. Shuman

Ruth M. Shuman earned three degrees from the University of Minnesota, a B.S. in Animal Science (1976), M.S. in Genetics (1981), and Ph.D. in Genetics (1984). After completing her Ph.D., she joined the faculty of the University of North Carolina where her early work on the development of genetically engineered chickens and avian molecular genetics gained international attention. In 1988 she returned to Twin Cities to start her own business, Gentra Systems, Inc., which has become a worldwide leading provider of DNA and RNA purification products for the growing genomics and gene-based diagnostic testing markets.
