Daniel H. Rich

Daniel H. Rich received a bachelor of science degree (1964) in chemistry from the Institute of Technology. After completing his Ph.D. and postdoctoral fellowships he joined the faculty of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1970. He currently is the Ralph F. Hirschmann Professor of Medicinal and Organic Chemistry at UW-Madison. He is internationally renowned for his research in the area of peptides and bioorganic chemistry. His extensive research in the area of design of inhibitors of aspartic proteases has had a significant impact on the discovery of the HIV protease inhibitors, Alzheimer’ s disease, hypertension and malaria. He has also made significant contributions to the field of immunology. He has published over 250 articles and two books. He has trained 35 Ph.D. students and 100 postdoctoral students. In addition, he is the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
