Bruce Paddock

Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

College of Pharmacy, August 19, 2011

Bruce Paddock, outstanding corporate and community citizen and national leader in industrial pharmacy, graduated from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota in 1970. He is the founding owner and Chairman of the Board of Paddock Laboratories Inc., which he established in 1977. Paddock Laboratories is a privately held Minnesota company that manufactures bioequivalent generic pharmaceuticals and Over the Counter (OTC) specialty products, with annual sales exceeding $160 million. The company's product portfolio contains over 80 products, and it continues to build a robust product pipeline through innovative research and development and an aggressive business development strategy. Under his leadership, the company has become a major national and international manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, with a reputation for quality and customer service. He grew up in Duluth and was pleased about the College of Pharmacy's branch-campus expansion in Duluth. His naming gift allowed for a facility to be remodeled, support to hire faculty, and for programmatic initiatives related to rural practice. With his help, the program is now considered a premiere national model for developing a pharmacy college branch campus. He is also generous with his time. He serves as a mentor to students and speaks to classes and at events. He has endowed a scholarship fund that focuses on students from single-parent families or who are single parents themselves. He has also partnered with the college's pacesetting pharmacy student leadership development initiatives to help add leadership and management skills to pharmacy students' base of scientific and clinical skills.
