Glen D. Nelson

Glen D. Nelson, M.D. graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1963. Currently, he is chairman of GDN Holdings, LLC (Aviation, Health Services, and Medical Devices). In 2002, he retired as vice chairman of Medtronic, Inc. and prior to that he served as chairman and CEO of American Medical Centers, chairman, president and CEO of Park Nicollet Medical Center, and was a practicing surgeon. He actively serves on numerous for-profit and nonprofit boards and committees including the board of the Carlson Companies, Inc., Harvard University Dean's Council, Johns Hopkins Medical Board of Visitors, and Minnesota Public Radio. He is also an emeritus clinical professor of surgery at the University of Minnesota. His nominator wrote, "A tireless advocate, dedicated philanthropist, and wise counselor, Dr. Nelson continues to reflect the core values of the University of Minnesota Medical School. In many ways, the Medical School's ability to set 'the next standard' in educating future physicians and scientists is due in no small part to accomplished alumni like Dr. Nelson."
