Parviz Moin received a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1974 from the University of Minnesota. He went on to earn a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He holds the Franklin P. and Caroline M. Johnson Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University and he is the founding director of the Center for Turbulence Research (CTR) at Stanford and NASA Ames Research Center. He is recognized for his research in direct numerical simulation of turbulence and their application to industrial processes. He has pioneered the use of direct and large eddy simulation techniques for the study of turbulence physics, and control and modeling concepts. He has served on numerous editorial boards and has been identified as one of the top 100 cited engineers worldwide by Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) from 1981-1999. The NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics' Lawrence Sperry Award, Endowed Professorship, Elected Fellow of the American Physical Society, Member of the National Academy of Engineering, Honorary Doctorate, NASA Outstanding Leadership Award, and the Moody Award of the American Physical Society, are among the many awards and honors he has received.
