Max M. Kampelman

Max M. Kampelman earned his master's degree (1946) and Ph.D. (1952), both in political science from the University of Minnesota. After earning his degrees, Ambassador Kampelman went on to establish himself as a leading scholar of political science and has compiled a record of outstanding accomplishments as a diplomat and formulator of American foreign policy. He was repeatedly appointed by the President of the United States to serve as ambassador and chair of the U.S. Delegation to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe during the 1980s and early 1990s. He was ambassador and head of the U.S. delegation for arms control negotiations during the latter 1980s. He has received numerous awards for public service and contributions to American foreign policy, including the Presidential Citizen's Medal and the Leadership Service Award from the American Jewish Committee. He is a partner of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver, and Jacobson.
