Lee W. Johnson

Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

Mr. Lee Johnson received his Bachelor of Science degree in a five-year Mechanical Engineering Degree program from the University of Minnesota in 1957. From 1957 to 1970, he worked at 3M and was Engineering Manager for Visual Products Division. In 1970, he co-founded the Reell Precision Manufacturing (RPM) Corporation and has served as the CEO. RPM is a leading manufacturer of electromechanical motors, spring clutches, and other parts used in laptop computers, office copiers, automatic addressing machines and similar devices. In recent years, the business has been expanded internationally to the Netherlands. As an inventor, Mr. Johnson has been granted four United States Patents in his professional career. He has been featured in publications such as "Inventing Tomorrow," "Minnesota Corporate Report," and "City Business." Mr. Johnson has also been active in the community, including work with the University of Minnesota. In addition to providing numerous opportunities for university students to gain design and development experience at RPM, he serves as chair of the committee seeking funds for the new Mechanical Engineering building. The All-University Honors Committee unanimously endorsed the awarding of the Outstanding Achievement Award to Lee W. Johnson.
