James Jerome Jenkins

Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

James Jerome Jenkins received both his master's degree (1948) and Ph.D. (1950) from the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota. He was a member of the University of Minnesota faculty for 32 years. The list of his scholarly contributions is extensive. He is one of the founders of the interdisciplinary field of cognitive science. His basic research on language production and speech perception helped establish psycholinguistics as a fundamental aspect of cognitive sciences. As a scientist he is recognized nationally and internationally and is equally well known for his contributions as a mentor and trainer of Ph.D. scientists.
