Gary H. Glover

Gary H. Glover, one of the world's leading inventors of technology for magnetic resonance imaging, received his bachelor of science degree (1964), master of science degree (1965) and Ph.D. (1969) in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota. After receiving his Ph.D., he had an exemplary 21-year career with General Electric. In 1990, he left industry to accept a position as Professor of Radiology at Stanford University. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has been awarded more than 50 U.S. patents and has published more than 300 papers in the fields of electrical engineering, medical imagining, semiconductor hot electron transport, and microwave devices. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the recipient of the Steinmetz Award from GE, the Gold Medal Award from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, and the Outstanding Researcher Award from the Radiological Society of America. In addition, he has been named a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. He has also been a member of many biomedical societies and scientific advisory boards, and held leadership positions of chair, president, and editorial board member. He is described as a committed supporter of the University of Minnesota and a highly regarded teacher and mentor to the next generation of scientists and engineers.
