Donald F. Gleason

Donald F. Gleason received all of his education at the University of Minnesota. On completion of his training in 1952, he joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota as member of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and as Chief, Pathology and Laboratory Service, V.A. Medical Center. He retired from these positions in 1975 to join the Pathology Department at the Fairview Medical Center. While at the University, Dr. Gleason conducted research in prostate cancer and eventually developed a system of classification or grading of the prostate cancer, now known as the Gleason Grade. He is considered one of the most highly recognized prostate cancer pathologists in the world.
