Ronald L. Christenson

Ronald L. Christenson received his B.S. with distinction from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1972. Employed by Cargill for his entire career, he joined the company in 1970 as a shift supervisor for a flax plant and is now a Corporate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. In the early 1980's, he supervised the design and construction of a sunflower seed processing plant in Argentina, where he mentored managers who play a significant role in Cargill's worldwide businesses. Because of his leadership, Cargill is now the most competitive South American corporation in this sector. As Vice President of Corporate Plant Operations and Chief Technology Officer, he is responsible for integrating technology into plant operations worldwide. His successful best practices have led to improved safety and environmental protection, improved maintenance management, construction management, and plant information technology. Through his efforts, waste has been reduced by 30% between 1995 and 2000, with an additional 30% reductions expected by 2005. He is a member of the Institute of Technology's Advisory Board, has mentored IT students, and is a strong supporter of the University of Minnesota.
