Robert E. Buckman

Robert E. Buckman graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree (1949) and a master's degree (1950) in forestry. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan and a Masters of Public Administration from Harvard. He began his illustrious career as a research scientist with the U.S. Forest Service at the Lake States Forest Experiment Station laboratory in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He progressed through research assignments and eventually served as deputy chief for research of the Forest Service, the highest administrative position in the largest forestry research organization in the world. He served in this capacity until his retirement in 1986.
