Mary Brabeck

Mary Brabeck earned a bachelor's degree (1967) in English and a Ph.D. (1980) in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota. She currently serves as the dean of the Steinhardt School of Education at New York University where she has helped to transform the school into a major contributor to improving the elementary and secondary schools of New York City. Prior to this, she served as dean of the Graduate School of Education at Boston College where she was recognized for substantially strengthening the school. She is described as an exemplary educator and intellectual leader whose commitment to social justice is unquestioned. She is the author of more than 80 chapters and journal articles and co-authored books on ethics, values, and the moral agenda in psychology. She has served on many national, regional, state and local professional societies and organizations such as the American Psychological Association, which recognized her with a Presidential Medal in 2005.
