Pearl L. Bergad

Pearl L. Bergad received her master's degree in Biology (1969) from the University of Minnesota and spent her career as a researcher in the University of Minnesota's Medical School. She has numerous scientific publications to her credit, has directed research, trained assistants, and served as a resource and mentor to many students and colleagues. She left her position in the pediatrics department to help coordinate "Hun Qia" (Bridge of Souls), the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota's concert of remembrance for the Asian holocaust of World War II. Throughout her career, she has been a dedicated volunteer who has directed her efforts to improve communication and increase understanding among people of different cultures, particularly in the Twin Cities. She works with the Chinese Senior Citizen Society, the Chinese Min Hua Chorus and the annual Asian Pacific Heritage Festival. In July 2002 President George W. Bush recognized her for her commitment to arts and multiculturalism.
