Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences, August 26, 2010

Todd L. Bachman, chairman and CEO of Bachman's for 14 years, earned his bachelor's degree in horticulture science in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) from the University of Minnesota in 1968. He served as chairman and CEO until his death in August 2008. He was considered the guiding force behind the company's floriculture side and his deep commitment and effective marketing strategies have been cited as defining factors in the company's success. Like his cousin, Dale, he played an active leadership role on both a state and national level in the horticulture and floriculture industries. He served as president, chairman, and member of numerous boards and associations including president of the Minnesota Commercial Flower Growers; board chairman of the Society of American Florists and board member; and vice president and president of the North Central Florists' Association, to name a few. In 2004, he and his wife established the Todd and Barbara Bachman Chair in Horticultural Marketing in CFANS, which is the first endowed chair in the country devoted to research, study, and teaching related to horticultural product marketing.
