Dale L. Bachman, president of Bachman's, received his bachelor's degree in plant and soil science in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) from the University of Minnesota in 1972. He spent his entire professional life helping to grow the family business, which is one of the nation's largest traditional floral and nursery businesses. Under his leadership, Bachman's has adapted and diversified its product lines and expanded and improved its retail garden centers to the needs of the changing marketplace. His focus has always extended beyond the success of his company to the long-term wellbeing of the nursery industry and larger community. He is recognized for his leadership in the areas of ethical and environmentally sound practices. He has also made a positive impact both nationally and internationally through his leadership on the American Nursery and Landscape Association (ANLA) and the Horticultural Research Institute. He served as ANLA's president (2003-04), and is the current Treasurer; he is a past Trustee board member; and, an executive committee member of HRI. He is also a Trustee of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. In 2005, he was inducted into the Minnesota Business Hall of Fame.
