Arvind earned a master's degree (1972) and a Ph.D. (1973) in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota. Currently, he is the Johnson Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). He is considered to be one of the most notable pioneers and practitioners in the computer science field, especially in the field of computer architectures. His contributions have influenced the design of microprocessors in almost all computers in use today. One person wrote, "His proposed dataflow approach were intellectually appealing, technically superior, and so radically different from traditional computer models, that his proposed dataflow architectures created a worldwide frenzy and competition to build such computers." He is the co-founder of Bluespec Inc., a successful company that manufacturers Electronic System Level EDA toolsets. He has served on numerous editorial boards and has chaired and served on many committees including the General Chair for the International Conference on Supercomputing. He is the co-author of a book titled Implicit Parallel Programming in Ph and the author of more than 80 publications.
