Mahmoud M. Abdel-Monem

Mahmoud M. Abdel-Monem currently is Dean and professor of the College of Pharmacy, Washington State University. He is nationally and internationally known as a leader is pharmaceutical education. Dr. Monem received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cairo University, Cairo Egypt in 1959. In 1961, he was awarded a scholarship to study in the United States and was admitted to the graduate school of the University of Minnesota in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and obtained his Ph.D. in 1966. His distinguished career at the University of Minnesota as a faculty member and administrator began shortly after his return to the United States in 1968. He was a very active researcher and maintained a strong extramurally funded research program. Dr. Monem has devoted much time to teaching and the exploration of innovative teaching strategies. As an administrator, Dr. Monem served the College as a Research Specialist, Unit Director, Assistant Dean, Department Chair, Associate Dean and Interim Dean. He was very active in many professional organizations including service as an editor of the major journal in his field, The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. He also served as a consultant to a Minnesota company, the Zinpro Corp., and has played a major role in that company's growth and continued success.
