Bonnie J. Welshons, a dedicated alumna who consistently gives of her time and talents, received a bachelor of science degree in food science and technology from the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) in 1982 at the University of Minnesota. She has had a 25-year career with General Mills in various management positions. Currently she is the director of quality and regulatory operations. She has contributed to CFANS and the University of Minnesota in a variety of ways. In 2003, she joined the College of Human Ecology (CHE) Alumni Society Board as a volunteer and got involved in developing the CHE Resource Development Committee and also helped to establish the College to Career Fund. In 2005-2006, she served as CHE society president and played a pivotal role in the transition from three collegiate societies (CHE, College of Natural Resources, and the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences) together as one. She was selected to serve as the CFANS representative to the University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA) National Board in 2007. She has been an active member of the UMAA Advocacy Committee and in 2010 she became an officer on the UMAA National Board. In addition, she has been instrumental in obtaining General Mill's support for CFANS activities including its Golf Scramble for Scholarships, sponsorship for CFANS Welcome Week activities, and the national Agricultural Alumni and Development Association national conference.
