Robert A. Stein

Robert A. Stein received a J.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1961. He was a professor at the University of Minnesota from 1964 to 1994; associate dean in 1967-77; and dean of the Law School from 1979 to 1994. He also served as vice president of University of Minnesota Administration and Planning from 1977 to 1980. After leaving the University, he lived in Chicago and was executive director of the American Bar Association. He was elected to the UMAA National Board of Directors in 2000 and served as vice president from 2001-04; president-elect in 2004-05; and national president from July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006. In fall 2006, he returned to join the Law School faculty. During his presidency of the UMAA, he led the development of the 2006-10 strategic plan in advancing the University’s goal to become a top three public research university. He was also instrumental in developing the UMAA partnership with the University of Minnesota Law Alumni Association. He is credited for convincing Sandra Day O’Connor to speak at the UMAA’s 2006 Annual Celebration.
