Ellen L. Sorenson

Ellen L. Sorenson received a bachelor's degree from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota in 1981. She is a four-year student member of the U of M Marching Band. Many consider her "the life force of the University of Minnesota Band Alumni Society." She has worked tirelessly to promote the band program, to increase the visibility and membership of the Band Alumni Society, and to support special projects and the development of scholarship funds. She will serve as the Band Alumni Society president during 2008-09. Her fervent support of the Bergen Woodwind Quintet project helped to bring one of the world's most renowned chamber music to the campus annually for the past 12 years. Because of her visionary work, she was invited to join the School of Music Advisory Committee and has served in this capacity for several years. She is also a member of the Institute of Technology Alumni Society Board and has been chair of their mentoring program since 2005. Ellen Sorenson is a uniquely loyal and dedicated volunteer whose passionate commitment and generosity of time have benefited countless U of M students and has advanced the University's band and music programs.
