Brian Osberg

Alumni Service Award Recipient

School of Public Health, September 29, 2010

Brian Osberg received a master of public health degree in 1986 from the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. During his service on the School of Public Health's (SPH) Alumni Society Board in the 1990's, he led a successful effort to establish the SPH alumni scholarship fund. He also authored appeals to SPH alumni for UMAA membership and for more financial support to a reinvigorated SPH alumni scholarship drive. In the last three years, the SPH alumni scholarship fund has risen from its initial endowment of $25,000 to more than $150,000. In addition, he helped to establish the SPH Mentor Program, which is in its 17th year and is considered to be the largest of its kind of any School of Public Health in the nation. He has also contributed significantly to changes in course curriculum that was needed to better prepare students for their professions. Osberg has served on the Senate All-University Honors Committee and worked with the University of Minnesota Alumni Association to commit a $1 million gift to both the Presidential Scholarship Match and the new TCF Bank football stadium.
