Mohammed Sadiki’s career exemplifies exceptional leadership, vision, and commitment to enhancing agriculture and rural development in Morocco, inspiring many in the academic and agricultural communities. He earned his PhD in plant breeding from the University of Minnesota in 1990. Sadiki has been a key figure at the Hassan II Institute for Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (IAV), Morocco's largest agricultural college. There, he developed a leading research program in legume genetics and agricultural biodiversity, advancing the breeding of fava beans, chickpeas, and peanuts. In 2005, Sadiki became director of scientific research and doctoral studies at IAV, establishing a strong research strategy and achieving accreditation for the graduate program. From 2009 to 2013, he served as director general of IAV, enhancing its international collaborations and reputation. In 2013, he was appointed secretary general of the Department of Agriculture, playing a vital role in implementing the Green Morocco Plan and securing international funding. In 2021, Sadiki was named minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Waters, and Forests, the highest position in the Ministry. Sadiki's efforts have significantly improved Moroccan agriculture, benefiting smallholder farmers and boosting agricultural exports. His work has strengthened Morocco's ability to tackle agricultural challenges and foster international collaborations. He remains dedicated to advancing agronomic education and research, regularly engaging with faculty and staff at Moroccan institutions. As president of the Board of Governors of the Mediterranean Center for Advanced Agronomic Studies, he has contributed to curriculum adaptation and strategic planning for Mediterranean countries. Sadiki has received numerous awards for his contributions, including the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Minnesota in 2015 and recognition by the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences as one of the 50 Hunger Fighters in 2020.
