James H. Prestegard is a Minnesota native and received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1966. He is a world leader in the use of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) to elucidate the structure, dynamics, and function of biological molecules and systems, especially proteins and carbohydrates that are membrane-associated. He is described as a true teacher-scholar and leader.
