Jeffrey A. Harvey received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1977. Professor Harvey is now a member of the Physics Faculty at the University of Chicago, and a member of the Enrico Fermi Institute. His accomplishments are primarily in the field of String Theory and Quantum Gravity in which he has been an active leader for the past seventeen years. Most recently, he has done path-breaking work analyzing tachyon condensation on unstable D-brane systems using properties of noncommutative gauge theories. He is recognized as an international scientific leader. In addition, Professor Harvey has serviced on several scientific boards and has received numerous honors and recognition.
