Jane Goodall made her name by studying wild chimpanzees at a time when almost nothing was known about the behavior of any wild ape. She is a world-renowned scientist. Her contributions to biology and the social sciences have had a major influence on the study of individual differences, intelligence and emotions in animals and humans. Goodall has received numerous awards and honors from all over the world. Her archives of her entire research at Gombe have been entrusted to the University of Minnesota. They are housed in the Jane Goodall Institute's Center for Primate Studies in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior.
