David F. Zentner graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth (1959), earning a B.A. in business administration and economics. He since has served more than 40 years as a catalyst for many important environmental gains in Minnesota and beyond. He has led local, state and national efforts to protect and preserve the environment. He has been a key player in every major Minnesota environmental accomplishment, from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to Voyageurs National Park, from wetland protection to wildlife preservation. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Conservation Award for Individual Achievement and the National Chevron Conservation Award, which is one of the nation's oldest and most recognized conservation award programs; and the Izaak Walton League of America "54 Founders Award."
