Theofanis G. Theofanous

Theofanis G. Theofanous is a 1969 graduate in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota. He currently is a professor of mechanical & environmental engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His contributions to the nuclear safety field and to his profession are significant. He is considered one of the most outstanding practitioners in these fields. He developed ROAAM (Risk Oriented Accident Analysis Methodology), a system designed to help resolve safety issues such as containment failure due to melt attack, in-vessel explosion, and in-vessel melt retention. His work brought the reactor safety evaluations in balance. He has contributed to numerous government studies on risk assessment and other chemical and nuclear engineering topics. He has published extensively and has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students.
