Richard A. Lidstad

Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

Mr. Richard Lidstad earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business from the Carlson School of Management in 1963. He has had an illustrious career at 3M spanning 40 years. He has risen within the organization from a copy products technician to his current position as staff vice president of Human Resources. Mr. Lidstad has worked for 10 years on the issue of violence in the workplace. Through his efforts as chairman of 3M's Human Resources Security Committee, 3M developed the nation's leading workplace violence prevention program. The work that he does with a major, worldwide corporation is intertwined with what he does for the community. The policies and programs he helps implement at 3M affect many people's lives both inside and outside of the corporation. Mr. Lidstad's service to the community includes his volunteer work with the United Way of the St. Paul area; involvement in developing a strong partnership between the Carlson School and 3M; providing his expertise to the University as a guest speaker, mentor, and member of various advisory boards and committees. Mr. Lidstad is described as a fair, caring, unpretentious individual whose integrity and willingness to do the right thing has affected many lives. The All-University Honors Committee enthusiastically endorsed the awarding of an Outstanding Achievement Award to Mr. Richard A. Lidstad.
