Nina M. Archabal

Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

Nina M. Archabal received a Ph.D. in Music History from the University of Minnesota in 1979 and served on the staff of the university for twelve years as a music history instructor and as assistant director of humanities for the University Art Museum. Since 1987 she has served as the first woman director and chief executive officer of the Minnesota Historical Society, one of the largest historical organizations in the nation. Dr. Archabal is currently on the Board of Overseers of Harvard College, is a former Chair of the American Association of Museums and was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Folklife Center. In 1997, President Clinton awarded her the National Humanities Medal.
