Kuo-Hsiung Lee

Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

Dr. Lee received his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Minnesota (1968). He is described as an unusually distinguished graduate, with a wide range of scientific and scholarly accomplishments, especially in the area of natural product chemistry. Dr. Lee is considered of the more prominent natural chemists in the United States, and is considered to be a leader in his field at the international level as well. He currently serves his 28th year on the faculty of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products Division at the School of Pharmacy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Lee has accepted several appointments outside of UNC-CH as well as serving on numerous advisory committees. Extensive and significant contributions in the areas of medicinal and natural product chemistry have to led to numerous honors and awards for Dr. Lee. These have included election as a fellow of the US Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (1978), American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (1986), and American Association for the Advancement of Science (1994). In 1996 Dr. Lee was elected as a member of the prestigious Academia Sinica of Taiwan, and in March 1994, he was presented with the Lifu Academic Award for Chinese Medicine. The All-University Honors Committee unanimously endorsed the awarding of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Minnesota to Dr. Kuo-Hsiung Lee.
