Johnson Y.S. Luh received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1963. He is one of the founders of the field of industrial robotics. He has done seminal work that forms the basis and is the foundation for most of the research in the area of dynamics and control of robots. He has many highly cited internationally recognized publications that have generated follow-up research and the development of technology in robotics around the world. He has been honored with many awards from various societies including the coveted Pioneer Award from the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. He has contributed widely to the education of generations of students in controls and robotics, and has also serviced his profession in a number of leadership positions.
