James F. Hammarsten

Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

Dr. Hammarsten has a long and illustrious career beginning at the University of Minnesota where he graduated with the M.D. degree in 1944. He served his university well as Assistant Chief of the Clinical Services at our V.A. Medical Center and then moved up the ranks to full professor and chief of the medical service at the V.A. Medical Center in Oklahoma. Dr. Hammarsten has contributed to many medical education and professional organizations at local and national levels through his extensive involvement and leadership. Dr. Hammarsten has been described as a distinguished and renowned outstanding academic administrator, medical educator, researcher, and - above all - a true humanitarian. The All-University Honors Committee unanimously endorsed the nomination of Dr. James Hammarsten for an Outstanding Achievement Award.
