David M. Winfield

David M. Winfield attended the University of Minnesota, where he played basketball and baseball. The only athlete to be drafted in three professional sports, Dave Winfield's illustrious career spanned 23 years with six teams. He is a 12-time All-Star and is one of only seven players to record 3,000 hits and 400 home runs. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot in January 2001. He is the first Gopher student-athlete to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1977 he established the David M. Winfield Foundation, which works on behalf of the disadvantaged and to find solutions to societal problems. He is described as a consummate community servant leader. In addition, he serves as a board member on numerous organizations committed to the common good.
