Mervyn de Souza completed his second M.S. in Microbial Engineering in the Bio Process Technology Institute (1994) at the University of Minnesota as well as his Ph.D. program in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics (1998). Currently he is a Principal Scientist at Cargill, Inc. Freshwater in Navarre. He is described as an exemplary alumnus volunteer who has contributed his time and talent to the College of Biological Sciences. He joined the Biological Sciences alumni Society (BSAS) board of directors in 2001. He was elected as president-elect in 2002, president in 2003, and currently past-president. He is also an active member of the University of Minnesota Legislative Network.
