Karin Alaniz

Karin Alaniz received a master’s degree in nursing from the School of Nursing (1977) and a Ph.D. in education from the College of Education and Human Development (1991) at the University of Minnesota. She served as a faculty member in the School of Nursing from 1977-2015. She is described as a “double Gopher,” who has a passion for supporting nursing students as they transition from students to University of Minnesota alumni and careers in health care. Alaniz has a superb record of volunteer service. She has served the School of Nursing Alumni Society since 1996; serving as president from 1996-2003; as a member of the Awards Committee from 2005-2007, and the Heritage Committee from 2008-2015. Alaniz also has been an active member of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association Board of Directors, serving from 2003-2008. In addition, she has fully endowed the Karin L. Alaniz Endowed Scholarship for undergraduate students. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Nursing Alumni Society’s Excellence in Nursing Education Award (twice), the Outstanding Nurse Educator Award from the Minnesota Association of Colleges of Nursing, and by the University Student Alumni Association with their Advisement Award, to name a few.
