Theodore V. Galambos's scholarly activity is recognized as one of the most distinguished careers in structural engineering. Most notably his contribution as "father" of the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) methodology for steel structures. He is also known for his leadership with regard to research, professional service, and the structural engineering program at the University of Minnesota. His distinctive achievements have added materially to the betterment of society.
