Ronald L. Libertus received his bachelor's degree in Russian Studies (1964) from the University of Minnesota. He has been a constant and crucial contributor to the cultural and scholarly life of the university and Native communities. He commands knowledge in several different subjects from American Indian art, history, culture, and economic development to Russian history and language. He is described as a dedicated teacher who is committed to his culture and to promoting the intellectual growth of his students. His career accomplishments have earned him an international reputation as a scholar of great merit. In 1999, after sixteen years, he retired from his position as lecturer in the Department of American Studies.
