Cheng-Hou Lou graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Ph.D. in 1939 from the Department of Botany. He has demonstrated extraordinary spirit and tenacity in conducting outstanding scientific research in plant physiology, achieving major breakthroughs while overcoming immense challenges. Since the 1950s he has guided Chinese agriculture to modern production practices that improve crop-yield and protect the environment. He is referred to as a "Father of Chinese Agriculture."
