Michael W. Wright

Biography (At time of award presentation in 1999)

    Michael Wright, a native Minnesotan, attended the University of Minnesota where he was captain of the 1959 Gopher football team and an Academic All-American. He earned his bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts in 1961, and his Juris Doctor degree, with honors and the Order of the Coif, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1963. Currently, he is the Chairman, CEO, and President of SUPERVALU INC. Michael Wright is active in many professional and civic organizations. He serves on a number of boards of directors, including Wells Fargo & Company, Honeywell Inc., and Cargill, Inc. He serves as Trustee Emeritus of the University of Minnesota Foundation, as a member of the Board of Overseers of the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, and as a member of St. Thomas Academy Board of Trustees. He is also past president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and the Minnesota Business Partnership.
