Steven E. Weekes

Biography (At time of award presentation in 2003)

Steve Weekes received a B.S. degree in forestry from the University of Minnesota in 1969. Currently he is President and CEO of Weekes Forest Products Company, a company that he began 24 years ago and is one of the nation's largest independently-owned softwood lumber distributors. He is a dedicated and active volunteer in many professional and civic organizations, including his service as President of the Twin Cities Indianhead Council of the Boy Scouts of America. It was his leadership that helped convince the local Indianhead Council to be the first to break with the Boy Scouts of America's position statement on human sexuality. He is the recipient of the highest award the Indianhead Council can present to an adult volunteer. He is also a strong supporter of the University of Minnesota, giving of his time by enriching the classroom experience for students through frequent guest lecturing about current issues in the forest products marketing industry. In addition, he is a tireless volunteer leader for community organizations such as Norwest Bank's Minneapolis Community Board, the YMCA, and Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson, Wisconsin.

The University of Minnesota is an equal opportunity educator and employer.
